Another ubisoft studio is officially examined for sexual harassment and discrimination
In the long series of obviously highly problematic events in developer studios now also rejects Ubisoft Singapore. The offshoot of the Ubisoft Group is now examined by a state organization, after a lot of anonymous reports of sexual harassment, discrimination and a generally toxic corporate culture and working atmosphere have come to light.
Ubisoft studio with the worst corporate culture
Investigation started: Ubisoft's Singapore studio is now being investigated by the State TafeP Supervisory Board (Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices), after countless reports of probably pretty bad conditions at Ubisoft Singapore were known. In the meantime, the authority apparently receives its own anonymous reports on harassment and discrimination.
Worst Ubisoft Studio? A former developer at Ubisoft should have explained that Ubisoft Singapore would have known internally as the worst Ubisoft studio. There, the corporate culture had been so striking that visitors would have asked for the inside from other studios, which leads to hell there (Via Kotaku).
And that wants something, after all, there are also various reports about a toxic and sexist corporate culture at Ubisoft from the studios in Montreal, Toronto, Quebec, Montpellier and Paris. You'll find more about it here:
- Ubisoft - report reveals profound sexism problems
- Ubisoft fears to lose talented staff through toxic corporate culture
- Ubisoft wants to have improved despite the opposite statements in sexism problems
What does the investigation mean? As the investigation is carried out by a national authority, this can enforce that Ubisoft Singapore has to introduce new workstation regulations.
Apparently, it can be used to follow two different consequences, especially as the investigations. When it comes to criminal acts in Singapore, the police can be turned on. That would be the case, for example, with sexual harassment.
If there are problems such as discrimination in the workplace, the corresponding ministry can probably make sure that the Ubisoft employees could no longer get a work permit anymore. This could obviously affect around 60% of the staff.
Ubisoft is not alone: The problem of a toxic corporate culture of course does not only affect Ubisoft. In studios and publishers such as Riot, Quantic Dream, FullBright, or Last Activision Blizzard rule or probably also sometimes regretted incredible states.
